Hello, everyone! Prism: An Anthology of Tomorrow has officially launched on Kickstarter! It’s a sci-fi solarpunk comics anthology showcasing utopian futures worth fighting for. It features diverse voices and bold visions from all over the world and runs until July 4 with a goal of $4,500.
Along with seven comics and two poems from very talented creators, it includes a 500-word science-fiction prose piece, “One Thousand Years and Only Two Likes,” written by me with art by Wren Rios.
A holographic edition of this cover will be available, but only through the Kickstarter campaign! Make sure to support early!
When I first heard about an anthology creating works centered on hope, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I looked through my full back catalogue of short stories to find something that would fit. Part of my pitch to the editor stated, “In a future in which capitalism has been eliminated but work has not, two interstellar miners learn to form a connection based on shared interests.” I hope you find that intriguing! Here is Wren’s art for the title:
And here is her rendition of the two main characters:
When I write a comic, I usually have an idea of what the character looks like if for no other reason than to convey to the artist what I’m aiming for in the design. Sometimes the artist creates exactly what I pictured; other times, it’s nothing like what I had in mind, but is somehow truer to what I was trying to communicate. With this story, I tried not to picture the characters at all. This was because I didn’t know if I would see them depicted the way I would in a comic, but also this was a result of the constraint of 500 words. Any description meant fewer words for plot, theme, or character development.
I couldn’t be happier with how this turned out! I hope to work with Wren again. I’ll let you decide which character is which after you read the story. ;-)
Here’s some promotional art to give you an idea of the range of styles and ideas that will be on display when you get a copy of Prism:
I’m proud of this book and excited to see it come to fruition. Please spread the word and do what you can. Support indie art and imagine a better world! Thanks.
Ooh looks great!
Thanks for the heads up! Just backed it!
